Lady Lions soccer forces draw against Rhodes

The Piedmont College women’s soccer team fought to a draw against the host team Rhodes College Saturday at the Rhodes College Tournament with a 2-2 draw in double OT.

The Lynx led the contest 1-0 at the half but the Lady Lions struck back with both PC goals coming in the second half of play.

CASSIE KIRK put the Lady Lions on the board in the 58th minute off an assist by SAVANNAH CASTLES to tie the contest at 1-1, however, Rhodes would answer just 10 minutes later to reclaim the lead. The equalizer came from senior SAVANNAH CASTLES in the 73rd minute, giving her a goal and an assist in the contest.

Neither team managed a goal in the extra periods as Rhodes out-shot PC 3-1 in extra time.MIRANDA MCNALLEY made her third start in goal for the Lady Lions allowing two goals and earning two saves in 110:00 in goal.

Turning Point
SAVANNAH CASTLES knotted the game at two-all in the 73rd minute off a long ball fromJAZMIN PENADO to beat the defender and find the back of the net.

Standout Performances
–Castles not only had the equalizing goal but also had the assist on the Lady Lions’ first goal of the contest.

News & Notes
–Piedmont is now 0-1-1 all-time against Rhodes with this contest marking the first road contest against the Lynx.
