Fayetteville, N.C. – For the second time this season a pair of Lady Lion lacrosse players have been recognized by the USA South for their accomplishments in the USA South weekly awards. This week Mckynsey Douglas took home Lacrosse Player of the Week while Blake Forrest earned Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.
For Douglas, this marks the first time the junior from Newnan, Georgia has been honored this season by the league as she tallied 15 points on 14 goals in a 3-0 week for the Lady Lions. Douglas scored seven of her 14 on the week against Birmingham Southern in a 24-6 win with two caused turnovers, two draw controls and a ground ball.
In USA South play, Douglas scored twice against Greensboro in a 9-2 victory and recorded five goals against Ferrum over the weekend. The junior leads the team with 26 goals this season as she is currently 11 ahead of the next closest teammate.
Douglas has the highest shooting percentage on the team among players with over 10 shots at .703. Also nominated for the award was Shannon Brown of Ferrum and Katie Burnet of Meredith.
Blake Forrest’s resume is piling up as she earned her third-straight Defensive Player of the Week nod as she has won the award each week of the season. Forrest is now 6-0 this season in the cage as she has won every start in her career.
Forrest allowed 15 goals in 180 minutes in a 3-0 campaign by the Lady Lions over the week and stopped 15 shots. Against Birmingham Southern in a 24-6 win, Forrest stopped three shots and grabbed one ground ball.
In conference play, she collected two ground balls and one caused turnover but did not record a save against Greensboro in a 9-2 victory. Against Ferrum, however, Forrest had quite a game with 12 saves and four ground balls in a 12-7 win to keep the Lady Lions undefeated record in tact. Also nominated for the award were Bianca Otey of Ferrum and Danielle Lee of Meredith.
The Lady Lions have just one contest on the slate for this week as they will be on the road Saturday taking on Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The game is scheduled to begin at noon and the Monarchs are currently undefeated as well at 4-0 with one game scheduled between now and this weekend’s contest.
