Demorest, GA – The Piedmont College women’s tennis team dropped just four total games in today’s 9-0 shutout win over USA South foe Ferrum College as the Lady Lions picked up their first win of the 2015 spring season.
Ferrum falls to 0-4 on the season while Piedmont improves to 1-3 with the win as the Lady Lions are also now 1-0 in conference play after grabbing the win in their league opener today vs. the Panthers.
Christian Wade earned the win at #1 singles for her first collegiate victory as the freshman from Powder Springs won 6-1, 6-2 over Ashley Foster from Ferrum. Durden Smith and Amanda Blackwell were the winning pair for PC at the #1 doubles spot winning 8-1 while Karina Rivera and Tatiana Burkett were victorious at the #2 doubles slot 8-0.
Blackwell won at #2 singles for PC as well 6-0, 6-0 over Ferrum’s Kelsey Nicely as Blackwell pulled even at 2-2 in singles play this season with the win. All four of Blackwell’s decisions have come at #2 singles.
The Piedmont winner at #3 singles was the squad’s second returner for the season, Nicole Parrish, as she picked up her first singles win of the season in perfect 6-0, 6-0 fashion knocking off Kisainya Miller. Freshman Morgan Cowart grabbed the win at #4 singles for her first collegiate win as well.
Piedmont’s next match was supposed to be at Mary Baldwin on Monday in a rescheduled affair from Saturday. However, that match has been postponed due to weather from last week that rolled through Virginia with no makeup date yet announced.
As a result, Piedmont’s next contest will now be the home opener this coming Friday, March 13 against William Peace University. The Pacers come to Burgen Tennis Courts for a 2:00 pm first serve.
