The Lady Indians seven times over the years have reached six wins in a row. That was the case again with a region sweep a couple of nights ago. Never before has TFS gotten over the hump and won a seventh straight match. Until now. The Lady Indians secured a 2-0 win over #6-ranked Academy of Richmond County to hit the new mark.
The streak was snapped after a thrilling 3-set loss to #3-ranked Morgan County after that.
Neither match was easy, as #5-ranked TFS beat Academy of Richmond 25-22, 25-23 in straight sets to run the win streak up to seven.
“We played pretty well in that match,” says coach Matt Heyl. “I would say our defense was a highlight. Elsa [Sanchez] hit good in the second set to really help us out. Kitty [Rodenas] set really well too.”
In the final match of the evening against Morgan County, the host school, the Lady Indians dropped the match against the #3-ranked team. After winning 25-21 to take the early advantage, TFS dropped the next two sets 12-25 and 10-15.
“We played pretty scrappy, but could not pass well the whole match,” adds Heyl. “We were down by five or six midway through the first set and then Elsa served amazingly well to get us back into it. We woke up and tied it at 19 and went on to win that set. They were too good to beat again without having a good passing match.”
The Lady Indians are now 25-11 overall. They return to action on October 4 at home against Athens Christian and Banks County in region action.
