The Lady Indians, currently ranked #5 in Class 1A DI, made quick work of both opponents in the first TFS home match since September 12. The result was a pair of 2-0 wins to secure the top spot atop the region heading into next week’s 8-A DI tournament. The regular season region championship is the first in school history for the volleyball team.
First up was Athens Christian, and TFS won 2-0. A 25-11 first set had Tallulah Falls completely in control, and a close 25-22 second set win clinched the match for the Lady Indians.
“We did not play well against AC,” says coach Matt Heyl. “Elsa [Sanchez] served well in the first set.”
Rabun County was next for Tallulah Falls, and it was yet another 2-0 win for TFS. The first set was a 25-15 final, with the second a 25-9 score, giving the home team the two-match straight-set sweep.
“Everything clicked against Rabun,” adds Heyl. “They had a good talk in between matches without the coaches that Sarah [Jennings] led. The coaches had already said enough, so we left and Sarah took over. Not sure what she said, but it worked. We served and passed well and that’s our engine to get us going.”
Tallulah Falls is now 27-11 overall and 9-1 in region play. The Lady Indians play again on Thursday at home against non-region foes Banks County. It will be senior night for TFS, who will recognize its five seniors – Sarah Jennings, Chloe Kahwach, Kitty Rodenas, Sofia Rueda, and Elsa Sanchez.
