Lady Indians repeat as Area Champions with win over Prince Ave

The Lady Indians made no doubt about it – they run Area 8-A. #4-ranked TFS beat rivals #10 Prince Avenue Christian in a 3-0, straight-set match, a third win over the Wolverines this season to claim the Area Championship on Saturday afternoon at home. It marks the second straight area title for TFS.

The Lady Indians started out with a 25-18 first-set win. The girls were off and running with a quick 7-0 lead that included three aces by Addy McCoy. Her first tied and second set the single-season aces record. Katarina Foskey had a pair of early kills and Chesney Tanksley another as Tallulah took over early. Prince Avenue got back into the set at 10-7, but a pair of Kate Gary aces helped pad the lead back to 16-8. It was back and forth until TFS put the set away.

In the second set, the Lady Indians were ahead 2-0 with another McCoy ace. Throughout the early part of the set, both teams went back and forth to an 8-8 tie. With Skylyn Yaskiewicz at serve, TFS went on a run to 12-8, sparking a PAC timeout. There were several monster kills by Foskey, and a kill by Kelly put the set away, 25-14.

In the clinching third set, a 25-18 Tallulah Falls win, the girls were again out front 4-1 before Prince Ave crept back into it. The visitors took a lead a bit later before TFS rebounded behind kills by McCoy and a Skylyn Yaskiewicz ace for a 13-9 lead that again forced a timeout for the Wolverines. McCoy’s kill ended a Prince Ave comeback attempt, clinching the championship.

McCoy registered 18 kills and six aces to go with three blocks. Foskey had 14 kills and a pair of blocks. Ashlyn Yaskiewicz had four kills and an ace as well. Tanksley, Gary, Skylyn Yaskiewicz, and Rebecca Heyl came up with several big plays throughout as well.

The Lady Indians are now 29-13 overall this season, and have a school record 13 straight wins. TFS will play one final tri-match next week prior to the state tournament, taking on Morgan County (defending 3A State Champions) and Prince Avenue at home on Thursday.
