The Lady Indians traveled to Lumpkin County on Tuesday evening for the season-opening tri-match against the host team and Habersham Central. TFS dropped the first before taking a win to split.

In the opener, Tallulah Falls was edged by Habersham 21-25 and 18-25 in a straight-set loss.

“The team was a little out of sync in our first match of the season,” says coach Matt Heyl. “Our defensive positioning was just off a little tonight. But there were a few highlights.”

Heyl pointed to Becca Heyl’s all-around great play, as Habersham could not stop her attack. Julia Smith had a great serving run to get TFS back in the first set. Laura Ruiz Rendon and Hyel had some very good serving runs as well. Chesney Tanksley and Margalida Amengual Sanchez did a good job running the offense. Lily Smith had several kills also.

In the second matchup, TFS bested Lumpkin 25-19, 25-14 in a straight-set victory. Julia Smith’s serve was a weapon again, according to coach Heyl.

“We had a little better contribution on offense, with several players getting in on the action,” adds Heyl.

Ruiz Rendon, Tanksley, and Amengual Sanchez had strong serving runs. Ruiz Rendon took charge of the ball in chaotic situations, and Lily Smith put the ball away to end the match with what Heyl says was her best kill of the night.

TFS is 1-1 to open the season.
