Lady Indians earn win in home and region opener

The Lady Indians dazzled in their home opener on Monday, downing region foes Athens Christian in quick work prior to a match with East Hall in a non-region tilt. Both were straight-set wins.

In the Athens Christian match, TFS won 25-9, 25-15. The opening set featured a 7-3 run to start for Tallulah Falls. It was 16-5 before Athens Christian got within 16-9. From there, TFS went on a 9-0 run to close it out. The final three points came with Becca Heyl at serve, as she notched two aces in the set.

The second set was even at 4-4 following a kill by Laura Ruiz Rendon, and TFS went ahead on another big kill from Margalida Amengual Sanchez. Athens Christian would briefly pull ahead 8-7, but Tallulah Falls made a pivotal run to go up 17-9, forcing the opponents to burn a timeout. The girls held on and took the set and match.

In the win over AC, Chesney Tanksley had six aces, Sanchez had five, and Heyl three. Rendon had five kills, while Sanchez (4), Heyl (3), Lily Smith (3), and Shelby Whisnant (2) all had multiple kills.

In the second match, the Lady Indians beat East Hall 2-0 by a 25-8, 25-9 score. TFS got off to another quick start, going on a 15-4 run. The second set featured a 13-3 start as well, as Tallulah cruised to the final. Lily Smith, Rendon, and Heyl had some ferocious kills to dominate offensively, and were assisted by some good passing and point-setting by Sanchez and Tanksley. Sanchez, Tanksley, Whisnant, and Heyl had a dominant night serving.

“It was a great group effort to seal the win,” says coach Matt Heyl.

The Lady Indians are now 5-3 on the season and 1-0 in Region 4-AAA. Check back for results from the East Hall match.
