L.M. Chastain

L.M. Chastain, age 84, of Mt. Airy, Georgia passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2015.

Mr. Chastain was born Feb. 6, 1931 in Marietta, GA to the late Luther and Jessie Lee Williams Chastain. He was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church, and was a life member of the Rabun County Chapter DAV #15. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having received the U.N. Service Medal and the Purple Heart for his service during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired carpenter, and enjoyed cutting grass, gardening and all of his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Baker.

Mr. Chastain is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marie Welborn Chastain; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Harry Caudell of Mt. Airy, GA; daughter, Patti Faulkner of Mt. Airy; sisters, Lucy Clardy of Cornelia, Barbara Caudell of Mt. Airy, and Bonnie Martin of Baldwin, GA; brothers, T.R. Chastain of McDonough, GA, Thomas Chastain of Douglasville, GA, David Chastain and Robert Chastain, both of Mt. Airy; grandchildren Lee and Julie Caudell, Mark and Kristy Caudell; great-grandchildren, Ava, Thomas, Luke, and Koen Caudell and Maya Pulido; and family friend, Jannie Sue Barrett.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel in Demorest with Rev. Trent Smith and Rev. Billy Burrell officiating. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps, Grant-Reeves VFW Post 7720, Rabun DAV #15, and the American Legion #84.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2015.

Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Hazel Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 243 Hazel Creek Rd, Mt. Airy, GA 30563.
