The 2022 STAR Student and Teacher at White County High School were honored Monday night during a special meeting of the Cleveland Kiwanis Club held at the White County High School Media Center. Anthony Johnson is the school’s STAR student and he selected Kalin Kennedy as his STAR teacher.

The Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program is sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators. To be named STAR student, a student must be a senior of an accredited Georgia public or private school, score the highest on a single test date for the SAT, and at the end of their junior year be in the top 10% of the students or the top ten of their graduating class.

Johnson said, “I was very glad that I was able to get it, I didn’t know for sure even with the highest SAT score because I’m graduating early so I didn’t know if I would be considered, so very happy I was able to get it. “

Johnson took the SAT twice and was able to reach his qualifying score in October 2021, which would have been his junior year.

Johnson is interested in engineering and problem-solving. Johnson wants to major in mechanical engineering and has already applied to a few colleges.

This makes three years in a row a STAR Student has chosen Kennedy to be their STAR teacher.
