Kidnapping arrest in Banks County

A Commerce man is in jail charged with kidnapping his estranged fiancée’s 6-year old daughter.

Banks County Sheriff’s Lt. Carissa McFadden says Dontavious Contrell Rucker was arrested Wednesday within an hour of officials activating an Amber Alert.

The child’s mother told law enforcement Rucker sent her a text message that afternoon showing that he had the young girl. The woman said she and Rucker recently separated and she had refused to talk to him. She told deputies Rucker picked up her daughter from school without permission and advised them he’s not the child’s legal guardian. She said she forgot to remove his name from the pickup permission list at the school.

Law enforcement issued a lookout for Rucker’s vehicle and activated an Amber Alert. A short time later, McFadden says deputies and Jefferson Police found the 27-year old Rucker and the child at a residence in Jefferson. The girl was unharmed and was reunited with her mother.

Rucker was arrested and transported to the Banks County Detention Center.
