Kenneth Lamar Mixson, age 86, of Demorest, Georgia, formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019.
Born on August 24, 1933, in Jacksonville, Florida, he was a son of the late Ellis Straightneck Mixson and Mina Keaton Mixson Tuten. Mr. Mixson was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville and a United States Marine Corps veteran. He retired from Jacksonville Electric Authority as an electrical engineer and then from Jefferson Smurfit as a wood scaler. Mr. Mixson was an ordained deacon for over 50 years in the Baptist Church and was currently a member of Habersham Baptist Church. He was an active member of the Arlington Optimist Club and enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, hunting, and the Florida Gators. His faith and family were of the utmost importance.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, J.E. Mixson.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Delores NeSmith Mixson of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Lynn Mixson of Demorest; daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Scott Conner of Greenville, NC, and Kim and Donnie Briggs of Middleburg, FL; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32211, with burial to follow in Arlington Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the service hour on Wednesday at Arlington Park Funeral Home.
