Kemp keeps current restrictions in place through end of the month

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has extended his executive order that was set to expire today. This order will be in effect until July 31, 2020.

The existing order, first issued on June 29, extends the gatherings ban of more than 50 people, renews business restrictions, and maintains a shelter in place order for residents of long-term care facilities and those who are medically fragile.

It also goes a step farther than the previous order by banning local municipalities from issuing mask mandates. The previous order simply stated that local restrictions could not exceed the governor’s but did not specifically ban mask mandates.

In issuing his latest order, Kemp said he “strongly encourages Georgians to wear masks in public.”

“To flatten the curve, I urge all local elected officials to enforce the terms of this order,” he added.
