This morning as I walked into my living room and saw the Christmas tree, covered in lights, I realized how much I am going to miss it. Of all the decorations, it is my favorite. Many a night, I’ve sat in a dark room, illuminated only by the white and gold lights on our tree, and just enjoyed its beauty. Christ came as light to our world. He came so that we would not have to endure the darkness.
In the next few days, I will wrap-up carefully all the ornaments, roll up the lights, fold the ribbon, box up the train, and life will be back to normal (whatever normal is).
The reality of life is, there are times when we are intensely dedicated to one thing or another, and slowly or quickly, it loses its luster and fades into the background. Either it is replaced with something else, or we lose interest in it, or we just let it disappear.
As Christians, the one aspect of our lives that cannot fade is our love of Christ and His love for us. Sometimes we lose our focus. Sometimes we put something else in our center. Sometimes our light isn’t as bright.
This year, make the resolution to keep Christ front and center. Make Him the first priority in the morning and the last words spoken before bed. Keep Him with you through out your day. Act according to His word. Keep His laws. Treat others as HE would treat them.
Make this the year the lights that once stood in your living room – symbols of Him – will be evident in you. Keep your Christmas lights glowing!
