Kathleen Tabor Jackson, age 93, of Cornelia, GA passed away on Friday, November 20, 2015.
Mrs. Jackson was born June 26, 1922, in Jackson County, Georgia, to the late Edward F. and Martha Hix Tabor. She was also preceded in death by her husband Joe S. Jackson and brother, John Tabor. Mrs. Jackson was an active member of Cornelia Christian Church and a former member of the Adult Sunday School class. Joe and Kathleen started their career in the restaurant business. During World War II, she drove a motorcycle delivering parts in the Bell Bomber plant, which later became Lockheed. After the war, they came back to Commerce, Georgia and started a motel and later saw an opportunity to start a motel in Cornelia, Georgia, where they built and opened the Skyland Motel. Kathleen was manager at the motel for 12 years, while Joe pursued the orchard business. Kathleen also worked at Gold’s Department Store for a number of years. They also started The Barn Antiques and she was co-owner of Habersham Mini Storage.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Sharon Jackson, Cornelia, GA; son, Terry Jackson, Athens, GA; sister, Mary Sue Tabor Gailey, Baldwin, GA; grandchildren, Dylan Jackson and Sarah Jackson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Monday, November 23, 2015 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel in Demorest, with David Terrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Jackson Memorial Park, Commerce, Georgia.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the funeral home.
