A juvenile has been taken into custody after allegedly making threats involving a middle school in Jackson County, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest in connection with a school-related threat at East Jackson Middle School on Sunday, Jan. 26. Following an investigation into the matter, a juvenile suspect is now charged with one felony count of terroristic threats and acts.
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities believe the threat to be isolated to this one individual. Police say the suspect’s parents have been cooperative with law enforcement throughout the process.
“We are very thankful for our school resource officers and investigators,” Jackson County Sheriff Kevin McCook said. “Their swift and diligent work helped bring about a safe and successful resolution to the matter. I also want to thank school Superintendent Dr. Phillip Brown and his staff for their assistance. We take these types of threats seriously and will act accordingly.”
Officials did not specify whether the child was a student at East Jackson.
