Joseph “Joe” Edward Rowland

Joseph “Joe” Edward Rowland, age 89, of Alto, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Rowland was born on July 9, 1930, in Hot Springs, Arkansas to the late Jay Miller and Maude Louise Eckel Rowland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Lou Crary Rowland; son, James “Jimmy” Rowland; sister, Alice Mae Rowland Hill; brothers, Jay and Dave Rowland; Alma Rowland Rawls. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the 141st Armored Tank Division. Mr. Rowland earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University. He was retired from the City of Atlanta with 20 plus years of service. After retirement, Joe worked at Habersham Hardware for several years. Joe was a loving and dedicated father and grandfather. He was a devout Christian and an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his daughter, Angela Cunningham, of Alto; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Tammy Rowland, of Lilburn; Rob and Nina Rowland, of Demorest; grandchildren, Charley Cunningham, of Alto; Mackenzie Fioca and husband, Aaron, of Snellville; Egan Rowland and wife, Shannon, of Loganville; Molly Rowland, and Erin Rowland, both of Lilburn; Amanda Brady, of Mt. Airy; Megan Rowland, of Alto; five great-grandchildren; brother, Eckel Rowland, of Van Buren, AR; God-son, Raymond Rawls, of Clarkesville.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of Northeast Georgia for their excellent loving care during his time of need.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel with Rev. Ray Turpin officiating and military honors provided by the United States Army. A private graveside service will be held by the family.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the funeral home prior to the service.
