Memorial service Saturday for grandfather and grandson killed in wreck

Family and friends still in shock over the sudden loss of a beloved Demorest grandfather and grandson are preparing for their funeral.

Bobby Lee York, Sr., age 82, and Jason York, 37, died in a car wreck Tuesday on Highway 115 in Demorest.

Bobby was the long-time owner of B&B Auction. His friends describe him as a man with a giving and charitable heart.

“Jason was as kind as his grandfather,” a longtime family friend says. He often spent time with his grandfather, enjoying one of their favorite past times – BINGO. Friends say he was always cheerful and smiling. He’s remembered as a genuine person with a heart of gold.

The two died on May 2, just ten days shy of the first anniversary of Jason’s dad’s death.

A Joint Memorial Service honoring the Yorks will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 6, at the Whitfield Funeral Homes South Chapel in Baldwin. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at noon.
