Joint investigation leads to arrest, charges in child molestation case

Hall County Sheriff’s investigators arrested a Gainesville man Wednesday on rape and other charges as the result of a collaborative child molestation investigation that began earlier this year.

Detectives took Raymond Daniel Morales, a registered sex offender, into custody without incident at Sheriff’s Office headquarters.

The sheriff’s office investigation began on May 28 when investigators received notice from the Flowery Branch Police Department about a molestation case its officers were working. “Police investigators had determined that some of the incidents occurred in unincorporated Hall County while others happened in Flowery Branch,” says Hall County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Derreck Booth.

Investigators from the sheriff’s office and police department obtained arrest warrants for Morales, 39, on Wednesday, each agency with its own charges of rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

According to the initial investigation by both departments, Morales committed the offenses against the same female child between April 2017 and December 2018. The alleged crimes occurred at Morales’ home in the 3000 block of Cub Circle in the county and at the victim’s previous residence in Flowery Branch. Police say Morales knew the victim.

The crimes remain under investigation by both departments. Morales remained in the Hall County Jail early Thursday afternoon, September 10.
