Johnnie Katherine (“Kay”) Sulc, 91, went home to Heaven on Saturday, October 3, 2020.
She was born November 28, 1928, in Knoxville, TN to the late John and Zena Harrington. After attending Bob Jones University and graduating from Columbia Bible College, she married Reuben Sulc in 1952 and was his faithful companion for 46 years as he pastored churches in Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Georgia. Reuben and Kay also served as Presbyterian missionaries for 20 years in Brazil. Her major joys included teaching children about God’s love and using her beautiful soprano voice to sing songs and hymns of praise. Kay was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother with a sweet and quiet spirit. She was a patient listener who could make anyone feel comfortable. In addition, she showed hospitality as an amazing cook and a gracious hostess. In her spare time, Kay enjoyed sewing and crafting.
After suffering a brain aneurysm and three strokes, Kay inspired all who knew her by her resilience, contentment, sweet spirit, and perseverance through 23 years of physical limitations and suffering.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving three children: Deborah (Timothy) Dunn of Murfreesboro, TN, Mark (Sally) Sulc of Hilliard, OH, and Mike (Julie) Sulc of Ames, IA; son-in-law, Jeff (Tania) Bourne; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Mary Shelley and Joan (George) Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Sulc, and daughter, Beverly Bourne.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and directors at Harmony Trace National Church Residences in Hilliard, OH for their dedicated, competent, and loving care of Kay the past 12 years.
