John Thomas “Tom” Wilson, age 74, of Gainesville, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Wilson was born on March 13, 1950, in Brunswick, Georgia, to the late John Henry Wilson and Lutrelle Gipson Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Keith Dodgins, and sister, Peggy Burke.
During the Vietnam era, Tom served his country honorably in the Army National Guard. Tom was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Gainesville. Upon retirement from the IT profession, he embarked on a new journey as the owner and operator of Wilson Transport. Tom’s greatest joy came from his roles as a loving husband, father, and Papa. He cherished his family above all else, and his presence brought warmth and happiness to every gathering.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Anita Reepe Wilson, of Gainesville; daughter Marisa (Ben) Lovell, of Clayton; step-daughter Debra (Mike) Hall, of Gainesville; sister Margaret Bowen, of Clarkesville; grandchildren Ashley Byers, Haley Dodgins, Nicole Hall, Dawson Dale, Emily Dodgins, Kathryn Hall, Mikayla Hall, Jessica Dale, TJ Dale, Morgan Lovell; great-granddaughter Grace Byers; and several nieces and nephews.
Private Funeral Services will be held at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Rev. David Wenger officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the funeral home.
