The Demorest City Council discussed their entertainment line up for their Glorious Fourth celebration during their work session Tuesday. Country music performer John Berry has reached out to the city to fill that slot, according to Council member Andrew Ferguson.
Ferguson stated that the city began discussing the idea with Berry’s production and management team. Over the next week, a tentative agreement was reached.
During their regular meeting, the city council unanimously approved the contract for John Berry to perform during the Fourth of July celebration.
John Berry
John Berry is originally from Aiken, South Carolina. However, he lived in the Athens, Georgia area for a number of years, where he began his career. In 1985, he started playing in college clubs and bars in Athens after UGA home football games.
A few years ago, he moved to Nashville to be closer to production resources. However, many of his band members still live in Georgia.
Berry rose to stardom on the country charts in the 1990s as a singer-songwriter with such hits as “Your Love Amazes Me,” “Standing on the Edge of Goodbye,” and “She’s Taken a Shine.” He is also known for his annual Christmas tours during the holidays and his electrifying rendition of “O’ Holy Night”.
Performing in Demorest this summer will be somewhat of a homecoming for Berry since Athens is only 50 miles away.
