Joel William “Joey” Ayers

Joel William “Joey” Ayers age 42 of Cleveland, Georgia formerly of Mount Airy, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 6, 2021.

Born in Stephens County on November 19, 1978, Joey was the son of David L and Trudy Garrett Ayers. He was a 1997 graduate of Stephens County High School where he lettered in wrestling, cross country and golf. Joey was an Eagle Scout from Cornelia Troup 24 and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Computer Information Systems from North Georgia Technical College. Joey was a member services representative with Habersham Electric Membership Corporation. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and he also enjoyed BBQ Competitions with his dad. Joey was a Royal Oaks Certified BBQ Judge and a KCBJ Certified BBQ Judge. He was a member and deacon of Carnes Creek Baptist Church, a member of Mountaineer Shrine Club as well as a member and Past Master of Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge, #141 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife Kimberley Smith Ayers of Cleveland, parents David and Trudy Ayers of Mt. Airy, daughter Anna Ruby Ayers of Cleveland, sister and brother in law Kayla and Jody Hubbard of Cornelia, mother in law Vickie Mitchum of Cleveland father in law Stanley Smith (Kelly) of Gainesville, brothers in law Kevin Smith (Shelley), Robert Stanton Shubert (fiancé Molly Westmoreland) and Jesse Mitchum (MacKenzie) as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kevin Smith, Rev. Jay Mosser and Rev. Kenneth McEntire officiating. Interment will follow the service in Hillside Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 10, 2021, from 5-8 PM. Gentlemen to serve as pallbearers will be Tommy Ayers, Kyle Stephens, Kenneth Garrett, Steve Fulbright, Jeff Carey, Randy Coker, Jonathan Wright and Jody Hubbard, with the Carnes Creek Baptist Church Board of Deacons to serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the educational fund for Joey’s daughter, Anna Ruby Ayers at any South State Bank branch.
