JoAnn Free Chapman

JoAnn Free Chapman, age 80 of Clarkesville, Georgia took her heavenly flight home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Tiger, Georgia on April 22, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Elbert Grady and Mary Geneva Free. JoAnn was a graduate of North Habersham High School, Class of 1960. JoAnn worked for many years in the textile and manufacturing industry. She also served as a caretaker for her family for numerous years. JoAnn’s most treasured role was being a devoted wife, loving mother, and adored “Nanny” to her grandchildren whom she loved endlessly. She attended The Torch Worship Center.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her brother, Hoyt Free. Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, James T. Chapman; son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Lorna Chapman; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and William Rogers, Gail and Tony Welborn, Deborah and James Whitlow; grandchildren, Shelby, Gunner, and Noah Whitlow, Nate Welborn; sister, Betty Jean Free Tyler all of Clarkesville, GA; numerous other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 03, 2022, at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville with Pastor Mike Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in the New Liberty Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 02, 2022.
