JoAnn Elizabeth Nichols Smith, age 76, of Alto, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021.
Born on November 15, 1944, in Sacramento, California, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Gilbert Forneir Nichols. Mrs. Smith was a sales rep with Windstream for many years. She and her husband, John, were owners and operators of the Burns-Sutton Bed and Breakfast in Clarkesville. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Carroll Smith, and son, Lawrence “Larry” Smith.
Survivors include her son, Daniel Smith of Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Freddy Schlegel of Cornelia; grandchildren: Justin Smith, Brittany Sosebee, and Blake Sosebee; great-grandchildren: Carter Smith, Jay Smith, Jeffery John Sosebee, and Paislie Crumbley; brother, Richard Nichols of St. Petersburg, FL; and sister, Cindy Carroll of Columbus, OH.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
