Jerry Lamar Smith, age 73, of Clarkesville, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, following a courageous five-year battle with cancer.
Mr. Smith was born June 17, 1950, in Habersham County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Smith. Jerry was a member of The Torch Worship Center. Throughout his career, Jerry dedicated himself to the steel trade. He served diligently at Wabco in Toccoa and contributed his expertise to shipyards in Virginia. Beyond his professional life, Jerry found solace and joy in the great outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, he found peace amidst the serene beauty of nature. Jerry’s greatest legacy lies in the love and care he bestowed upon his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son and will forever be cherished by his grandchildren, who knew him as “Grandpa Jerry”.
Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Janet Dickerson Smith, of Clarkesville; mother, Ruth Welborn Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Darrin and Carrie Smith, of Adairsville; daughter, Ashley Smith and Chad Lance, of Clermont; son, Phillip Smith and Summerlin Franklin, of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Alyssa Smith and Kaylee Smith; and several cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Pastor Mike Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the funeral home prior to the service.
