Jennifer and Richard (Rich) Stein have moved from Habersham for their jobs. But, their legacies in Habersham County continue on.
Rich Stein was a deputy with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office when the Special Victims Unit was created. For a while, Rich was the first and only investigator in the unit. The unit, created under the watch of Sheriff Joey Terrell, has the responsibility to investigate crimes of domestic violence.
Rich Stein moved on from Habersham County to join the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office as Senior Investigator for Major Crimes. Rich now works preparing evidence for trials. The family relocated from Habersham to Marietta to be closer to Rich’s work.
It was through Stein’s work that his wife Jennifer became acquainted with how prevalent child abuse had become. Jennifer went on to serve on the board of directors for Prevent Child Abuse Habersham (PCAH) and took on the role as Executive Director in 2015. Shortly after that, Jennifer led the work of developing the Family Resource Center.
Although Jennifer continued to commute to Habersham in early 2020, she felt it was unfair for her to continue in the position with PCAH without being able to network in the community.
She was recently hired as the Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia (PCAG) and started her work there on April 1, 2021. PCAG works with twenty-six county and regional Prevent Child Abuse councils throughout the state, providing support, training, and prevention resources.
Jennifer is thrilled with the new position. Jennifer explains, “Working for Prevent Child Abuse Georgia draws upon all my personal loves – networking on the state and county levels and working on state-level workgroups. This includes working with prevention leadership with DFACs, and in developing partnerships with Child Healthcare of Atlanta, the Department of Public Health, and the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.”
It seems that Jennifer has been uniquely positioned to brings a voice to the preventing child abuse conversation that represents those who work at the ground level.
