Jeffrey Joe “Jeff” Payne, age 62 of Demorest, Georgia went home with the Lord on Friday, February 04, 2022, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on December 08, 1959, in Habersham County, Georgia, he was a son of Joe Richard Payne & Amy Tomlin Payne of Alto, Georgia. Jeff served his country proudly in the United States Army for 4 years. He worked at Mount Vernon Mills from 1977 through 1995 and then with Wrigley’s/Mars Manufacturing with over 25 years of dedicated service. Jeff was thankful every day for the grace of God that saved a wretch like me. He wrote the following poem in honor of his Savior.
Nothing to offer
I come just as I am
Ungodly wicked sinner
No hope in me he had
I come to Calvary
And there upon a cross
A man has died for me
Tis Jesus on the cross
Born of God above
Sinless and no spot
Eternal life from Heaven
Made sin for me his lot
Dying in my place
My wages he received
His Eternal Life he gave
To save a wretch like me
Taken to a tomb
Where no body lain
Sealed with a stone
A watch set in place
But on the third day
An empty tomb is found
Risen from the dead
Redeemed by Love unbound
By Faith, I’ve been set free
God’s Grace is plain to see
Christ Jesus died for sinners
If only you believe.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he (God) hath made him (Jesus Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we (believers) might be made the righteousness of God in him (Jesus Christ).”
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
