
The city of Jefferson has announced the promotion of former Lt. Steven R. Bannister to the role of assistant chief of police, effective immediately.
Bannister, a member of the Jefferson Police Department since 1989, has steadily risen through the ranks, serving as a patrol officer before advancing to lieutenant and now assistant chief. His decades of experience, leadership and longtime connection to the community made him a natural choice for the position.
A longtime Jefferson resident, Bannister’s understanding of the city’s evolving needs extends beyond his professional role, according to officials. He has been an active member of the Jefferson Church for 28 years and is known for his commitment to fostering community relationships.
Married to his wife Kimberly for 27 years and a devoted father to his daughter Peyton, he brings both personal and professional dedication to his new leadership role.
City officials expressed confidence that under Bannister’s leadership, stating the Jefferson Police Department will continue to uphold the highest standards of service and protection for its residents.
“The city extends a warm welcome to assistant chief Bannister in this new role and looks forward to his contributions and steadfast leadership in fostering a safe and secure environment for all citizens,” a statement from the city says.
