Jean Martha Pickens Swain, 95, of Baldwin, GA, beloved mother, wife, and grandmother, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 26, 2016.
Mrs. Swain was born June 30, 1920, in Chicago, IL, to the late Arthur George Cook Pickens and Bertha Fayling Pickens. Jean was a WWII veteran having served in the Women’s Army Corp in Africa, France, and Italy. During her service in the military, Mrs. Swain received a Good Conduct Medal and an EAME Ribbon with 2 Bronze Service Stars. After WWII, Mrs. Swain served in the Red Cross and later became the Service Club Director at Hurlburt Field.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Jennings Swain, of 47 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Linda Scott, Baldwin, GA; step son Kenny (Melody) Rutzke, FL; granddaughters, Kathy Judson, Richmond, VA, and Dawn Rutzke, FL; grandsons, J.R. Rutzke and Adam Rutzke, both of FL; 9 great grandchildren; beloved caregivers, Brenda & Bobby Barrett, Cornelia, GA.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2016 at Beal Memorial Cemetery, Fort Walton Beach, FL.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the funeral home.
