James Wilburn Johnson, age 78, of Clarkesville, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at his residence surrounded by family.
Born in Clarkesville on December 24, 1945, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Thomas Wilburn Johnson and the late Edith Tench Johnson. He was a 1964 graduate of North Habersham High School where he was captain of the football team and also voted “Mr. Clarkesville.” He enjoyed being a shade tree mechanic and tinkering with old cars. Mr. Johnson was retired from Scovill Fasteners, Inc. where he worked in the machine shop. Mr. Johnson was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed spending time with friends and family, as well as listening to music.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by sister Sylvia Johnson Holcomb.
Survivors include sons James Richard Johnson (Lisa Kendig) of Culleoka, TN, Timothy Christopher Johnson of Braselton and Michael Chadwick Johnson (Celeste) of Clayton, life companion Annamaria Fennell of Clarkesville, brothers Francis Marion “Frank” Johnson of Duluth and Thomas Boyd Johnson (Tonya) of Butler, MS, sister Bertha Lou Johnson Smith of Clarksville, TN, and grandchildren Michael Chadwick Johnson, Jr., Thomas James Johnson and Elizabeth Estelle Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Hillside Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Matthew Butler officiating. Interment will follow the service at Amy’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, prior to the service, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
