James “Jimmy” Richard Morrison, age 85, of Alto, Georgia passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
Jimmy was born on June 3, 1939 in the Hollingsworth Community of Banks County, Georgia to the late James Richard Morrison, Sr. and Monteen Duckett Morrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Janice Yarber, and Joanna Wilbanks. Jimmy was a lifelong resident of the Hollingsworth Community and following high school, he served in the Army Reserves. Jimmy retired from Atlanta Gas Light Company after 36 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, and was active in his local community, Jimmy was a member of the Banks County Farm Bureau where he had previously served as President. He devoted himself to making a difference through two terms as a Banks County Commissioner, and also served on the Banks County Planning Commission. A true farmer at heart, Jimmy found his greatest joy on his farm, especially spending time on the tractor. His love for the land was evident in every season, and he took pride in the work that connected him so deeply to his roots. The theme of Jimmy’s legacy is that he truly cared for everyone around him. He truly never met a stranger and went above and beyond for everyone he knew. Known for his genuine friendship, he was a man of honor, integrity, and compassion who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Edwin Lowe, of Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Krysta Morrison, of Alto; sister, June Wright, of Hollingsworth; grandchildren, Avary Morrison, Ashton Morrison, Anna Densmore, Jack Lowe; great-grandchildren, Cannon, Saylor, Pierce; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, October 28, 2024 at the Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Byrd officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2024 and from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday, October 28, 2024 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel prior to the service at the church.
