James Edward Staples

James Edward “Jim” Staples, age 86, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017.

Mr. Staples was born on March 12, 1931 in Mexico, Missouri to the late John W. And Edna Foreman Staples. In addition to his parents, Mr. Staples was preceded in death by his step-mother, Elsie A. Staples; brother, Howard Ray Staples; and sister, Eunice Marie Staples. Mr. Staples was a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church, a Life Member of Grant Reeves VFW Post 7720, and a member of NARFE. He was a veteran of the United Sates Navy. Mr. Staples was retired Postmaster from Cornelia Post Office with 26 years of service with a total of 39 years of service with the US Postal Service

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret “Peggy” Hughes Staples, of Cornelia; daughter, Katrina Marie Staples, of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, J. Edward and Kimberly Brown Staples, of Buford; sister, Margaret Ricketson, of Clarkesville; brothers, Robert W. Staples, of Miami, FL; John T. Staples, of Cattawissa, MO; grandchild, MacKenzie Staples; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Phillip DeMore, Rev. Rick Price, and Rev. Keith Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Clarkesville City Cemetery with military honors to be provided by the United States Navy, Grant Reeves VFW Post 7720, American Legion Post 84, and Rabun D.A.V. #15.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Monday, July 10, 2017 at the funeral home.
