FBI’s National Threat Operations Center received anonymous tips from a gaming site in May 2023. Within 24 hours, the FBI revealed the post originated in Georgia. The information found by the FBI was referred to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division for action.

On their Facebook page, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office indicated that they located a 13-year-old male and interviewed him and his father. A thorough investigation was conducted. The 13-year-old denied making the threats online and from the investigation, the threats could not be substantiated. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office notified local schools to continue monitoring the situation.

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum stated, “My phone is blowing up with messages from people about social media postings about other possible incidents. To my knowledge, there is not a list indicating any of this.”
