Ivy Hinds Clemons

Ivy Hinds Clemons, age 97, of Clarkesville, Georgia formerly of Cullman, Alabama, passed away on May 30, 2020, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Clemons was born on October 31, 1922, in Cullman, Alabama to the late Alfred and Johnie Coleman Hinds. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Sherman D. Clemons; and brother, Luther Hinds (Gertrude). She was a 1940 Graduate of Cullman High School. Mrs. Clemons had a very successful career of 42 years with AT&T in Cullman, Alabama. Among other honors, she was selected as “Ms. Telephone of Alabama” in 1960. Mrs. Clemons was a member of the First Christian Church of Cullman for over 70 years where her service included Sunday School Teacher, Member of the Choir, a member of the Woman’s Auxillary, and church treasurer for 25 years. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers Retirement Group where she volunteered time to underprivileged children and other service organizations. Mrs. Clemons also served as a volunteer with the Cullman Medical Center Auxillary for over 25 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending endless hours reading as well as spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dinah and Larry Peevy, of Tallulah Falls; grandchildren, Phillip Peevy (Caroline), of Marietta; Ashley Peevy Hall (Christopher), of Dacula; great-grandchildren, Hanna and Aubrey Peevy; and Caiden and Avery Hall.

A Private Memorial Graveside Service will be held at the Cullman City Cemetery in Cullman, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a scholarship in her honor at Tallulah Falls School, P.O. Box 10, Tallulah Falls, Georgia 30573.
