It just ended

The clock in my kitchen ticks loudly like a beating heart as I write to you this morning. My thoughts are elsewhere.

I spoke with a lady yesterday who had given up on life. The past few years seemed unbearable to her. She wanted out.

We all go through seasons in life – times of sadness – times of joy – times of prosperity – times of drought. We all wonder at times what our direction is in life; if we truly have a purpose here; and what that purpose means to those around us.

My conversation didn’t end positively or negatively, it just ended. My words neither brought comfort nor despair. She seemed too numb, neutralized, unapproachable. I promised to pray for her. She shrugged her shoulders and went on with a life she despised.

I couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t find comfort. My soul seemed in turmoil, and I spent most of the night praying for someone I didn’t know and reading my Bible.

After all, who but those in the Bible can one find greater tragedies and greater triumphs? God’s Word at times can be prescriptive and at other times a way to realize the struggles and victories of others.

I’m not sure where you are in life right now, but I wanted to share with you some verses of encouragement. No matter the situation you are experiencing, there is hope in God. There is an answer. And even when nothing seems good, He is good.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

1 Peter 1:3, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…”

Romans 5:3-5, “…we know that suffering produces perseverance;  perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”

Romans 15:4, “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

Don’t give up. We’re not alone in our trials and struggles. God is on the throne. When our worlds seem like they are falling apart, piece by piece, the reality is, God is putting those pieces into place. There are times when He stands with us quietly and others when we feel His presence everywhere. Never doubt that He is with us.
