SAUTEE, Ga. — The rising cost of electricity has left many Georgians wondering if there’s a better, cheaper alternative to traditional utility companies. However, if you’re among those considering a possible switch to solar power at your home or office, you know the process can be intimidating. You’ve likely found yourself wondering if the investment of time and money is worth it.
The Sautee Nacoochee Center (SNC) in White County offers a free “Solar Mentor” service that can help you decide.
White County residents and SNC volunteers Michael Cook and Gerald Richardson have personal and professional experience with solar power. As part of SNC’s Environmental Stewardship Program, they will come to your home or office, free of charge, and offer an on-site assessment of whether solar panels would work for you.
Assessments usually take one to two hours. During their visits, these solar mentors will check the orientation of the building and amount of available sunlight and then guide you through your options.
Program director Johnna Tuttle says SNC has had a “great response” to the service.
“Solar energy is an efficient option if the conditions are right. Like any other industry, there are more and less reputable salespeople. If you want unbiased, knowledgeable input, this is a great first step in exploring solar as a possibility,” she says.
To schedule a visit with the SNC Solar Mentors, contact Tuttle for an appointment at [email protected] or 706-878-3300 extension 306.
