International Drug Operation Disrupted in Cornelia

One man is behind bars and more arrests are pending in connection with an apparent international drug operation uncovered this week in Cornelia.

The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) says U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers intercepted a package that contained approximately 4 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine that was shipped from Mexico. The package was delivered to 1909 Joe’s Way Drive in Cornelia.

According to ARDEO Special Agent in Charge Mitchell Posey, there was enough liquid to convert into eight pounds of powder methamptheramine with a street value of approximately $358,000.

Posey says a search warrant was executed at the location on Joe’s Way Drive Thursday by ARDEO agents, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and Cornelia Police Department. 20-year old Cristian Bustos of Douglas, Georgia was arrested during the search and transported to the Habersham County Detention Center.
