A medical helicopter was called in this morning to fly an injured student from South Habersham Middle School to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
The student was injured outside during PE, according to SHMS principal Daphne Penick. She says the boy appeared to have suffered a “no-contact upper leg injury” while running. “Due to the nature of the injury, our EMS chose to transport him by air instead of ground to an Atlanta area hospital,” explains Penick.
“His injuries and age required he be transported to a tertiary facility that treats children,” says Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black. Black says the boy’s guardian accompanied him on the Air Life flight to Atlanta.
