66-year-old woman suffers ankle injury in remote part of Chattahoochee Forest

For the second time in as many days, a helicopter crew was called on to rescue a hiker in Northeast Georgia.

According to a news release from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the 66-year-old woman suffered an ankle injury at Panther Creek Falls in Habersham County on Sunday afternoon, September 1.

Habersham County Emergency Services and Rabun County Emergency Management teams hiked in to treat the patient. They administered fluids and pain medications.

The DNR Aviation Unit airlifted the injured woman from the falls to the Habersham County fire station on Orchard Road, about 3 miles away. An ambulance then transported her to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Demorest for treatment.

A day earlier, DNR’s Aviation Unit rescued a man from the floor of Tallulah Gorge after he suffered heart problems.
