Indians secure third seed, Lady Indians fourth in Region Tournament

BOYS

Tallulah Falls ended a frustrating 3-game losing streak with a 70-52 win over Elbert County in the Region 8-A DI Consolation game Friday night at Piedmont University.

TFS outscored Elbert 25-6 in the final quarter to seal the win. Anfernee Hanna guided the offense with 32 points, and added 11 rebounds to complete his double-double. Vlad Popescu had 17 points and 5 assists.

The Indians are now 17-9 overall, and will take on #2-seed Chattooga either February 21 or 22 in the GHSA State Tournament’s opening round action.

GIRLS

The Lady Indians lost a pivotal consolation game in the region tournament to claim the fourth seed from Region 8-A DI going into next week’s state tournament. TFS lost 54-44 in a shocking defeat to Athens Christian Friday evening at Piedmont University despite beating the Lady Eagles twice during the regular season.

Tallulah Falls trailed by as much as 28 points before making a valiant comeback effort in the second half. Athens Christian led 16-6 after the first and 34-11 at the half.

Denika Lightbourne had 26 points to lead the offense, while Haygen James had 6 points. Emily Cai and Allie Phasavang had 4 points apiece, and Breelyn Wood and Tanisha Seymour had 2 points each. The Lady Indians were out-rebounded 52-21 in the contest.

TFS is now 8-16 overall on the season. The Lady Indians are slated to take on powerhouse Darlington in the first round of the state playoffs on either February 21 or 22.
