For a period of time, I tried to avoid the news. I didn’t want to hear of the Middle East or the drug lords or kidnappings or murders. I wanted to live on my 5 acres surrounded by woods with bird feeders and a rose garden and rock on my porch – unaware. And for a period of time, that’s exactly what I did. Until I stopped rocking and saw that the world needed help.
As I write this devotional, Christians around the globe are being persecuted. Anti-Semitism is reaching an all time high and terrorists groups continue to spread their evil, satanic acts.
It isn’t like we haven’t been warned. Biblical prophecies are quite clear. And the Bible hasn’t been wrong yet. But what do we do in the meantime? While we wait for His return?
I used to play a game with my children. “What do we do while we’re waiting?” In my car I kept a bag of entertaining games, paper clip strings, magnets, and wooden shapes. My son Will used to say with excitement, “Oh I hope we get to wait at the doctor’s office a really long time!” The reality of our situation as Christians is, it is important how we wait, whether it is a really long time or not.
In my life time I don’t believe we’ve reached a more pivotal point for Christians to stand firm in their beliefs than now.
As Christians we have a responsibility to pressure our government to support Israel. We owe the Jewish people a tremendous debt for their significant contribution to our faith. Without Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah…, King David, Solomon…, Matthan, and Jacob, who was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, the mother of our King Jesus, we wouldn’t have a Savior. We wouldn’t have the Twelve Disciples, the Apostle Paul, The New Testament, or The Old Testament. In fact, if I may be so bold as to say, I am a Christian because of the Jewish people. Why would I support anything less than full-backing of Israel?
The Jewish people were Jesus’ family. When He died on the Cross, His crown bore the inscription, “King of the Jews.” Without Jesus Christ, we wouldn’t have founded America. And, it is important to note, while all nations in the world today were created by man – Israel was created and promised by God.
Don’t sit on your porch, rocking away, playing waiting games, and doing nothing. We must act in several ways to help Israel: through prayer, financial support, speaking out against anti-Semitic tactics, and forcing our government to change its stance.
What will you do while you’re waiting?
Genesis 12:3, “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
