The Banks County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the discovery of human remains found in a wooded area off of Highway 59 in Commerce.
BCSO spokesperson Lt. Carissa McFadden says the skeletal remains were found Sunday evening near New Salem United Methodist Church located at 2170 Hwy. 59.
“On Sunday evening, an interested real estate buyer was exploring the property when the skeletal remains were discovered. Due to the time of discovery, the investigation was haulted until daylight hours,” says McFadden.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to assist with examining and processing the scene. Lt. McFadden says once the scene is fully processed the investigation will be turned over to the GBI.
