Georgia State School Superintendent, Richard Woods, has announced the 2019 Georgia Scholars. Haley Hulsey, a senior at Habersham Central High School, is among the ten students from the Pioneer RESA District to be recognized.
The Georgie Department of Education describes Georgia Scholars as “students who have carried exemplary course loads during their four years of high school; who performed excellently in all courses; who successfully participated in interscholastic events at their schools and in their communities; and who have assumed active roles in extracurricular activities sponsored by their schools”.
“The 2019 Georgia Scholars exemplify our mission of educating the whole child,” Superintendent Woods says. “They are well-rounded students who have engaged with a wide array of educational opportunities – from traditional classroom learning to community service. I congratulate each of these students and wish them well as they embark on their next steps after high school.”
The program is coordinated by the department of education’s Excellence Recognition office and through local coordinators in each public school system and private schools throughout the state. Each recipient will receive a special diploma seal from the Georgia Department of Education.
Haley Hulsey will attend the University of Georgia in the fall to pursue a degree in exercise science. She is Habersham Central’s Star Student, has played varsity basketball and varsity soccer, and is a member of Beta Club and the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. Haley has served on the Junior Chamber Board, the South State Bank Student Advisory Board, and is active in youth ministries at First Baptist Church in Gainesville.
