Montgomery, AL – The Piedmont men’s cross country team began the season at the Western Carolina Invitational Saturday with many new faces making their collegiate debut. Five freshmen competed for the first time in the Green and Gold and newcomer JARROD HOWELL claimed the top spot for the Lions edging out CODY PARKER in a close battle all the way to the finish line.
Piedmont saw four freshmen in the top five and saw every runner complete the 5K in under 19:00 minutes. The Lions’ team average at this event in 2014 was 19:20, which every runner beat this year, dropping their average to an impressive 17:47.81. Both CODY PARKER and CORY MCCLUNG who competed in the 2014 Western Carolina Invitational beat their times from the previous season as Parker improved by over 40 seconds and McClung shaved off 18 seconds.
