Mary Beth Horton is stepping down as president of the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce. Horton, who has held the job for four years, announced her resignation on Monday. She is leaving the Chamber to accept a position as Community Relations Ambassador of the Habersham Electric Membership Corporation (HEMC).
“I am excited that this new role will allow me to continue working in this community, and I look forward to enhancing the wonderful relationships that I have made over the past several years,” Horton says. “I am dedicated to family and community and to serving others, and I am ready to serve and begin the next chapter of my life.”
Former Chamber board chairman Kelly Woodall has agreed to serve as interim president, according to a press release. Horton has offered to help the Chamber through the transition.
“I’m extremely proud of the work our team has done on behalf of Habersham County’s business community, and I will continue to champion the cause,” she says. “The experience I’ve gained has been priceless but, more importantly, the friendships I’ve gained are immeasurable.”
Prior to going to work for the Chamber, Horton served as Main Street Director for the city of Clarkesville. She has been Habersham Chamber president since 2018. Her last day on the job is November 11th.
