With the close of the GHSA Duals State Tournament Championship, some things remain the same
Commerce and Jefferson both won their individual classifications, while Lumpkin earned a top five finish Saturday.
COMMERCE
The Tigers made it six straight state titles in duals, and it wasn’t even close. Commerce rolled through Trion, 56-15, completing another near-perfect weekend that included wins over Mount Zion (72-6) and Turner County (65-12).
JEFFERSON
The Dragons made it 18 straight state championships! But it wasn’t easy, as Jefferson took on #1-ranked North Hall, and came out with a thrilling 30-29 win to claim the title. The Dragons had beaten Central Macon (72-6) and Sonoraville (33-24) before facing the Trojans.
LUMPKIN COUNTY
The Indians had a great run, entering as #11 out of 12 teams. However, those numbers didn’t shake Lumpkin, as the team upset #6 Pierce County (39-31) before falling to #3 Sonoraville (52-15). The Indians rebounded with a huge win over #5 Pike County (46-24) and #8 Cook County (48-16) before falling to Jackson County (58-12). That was good for a fifth-place finish.
