Game wardens and local emergency personnel rescued a hiker from the floor of Tallulah Gorge on Saturday.
According to information released by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the 59-year-old man hiked to the bottom of the gorge, where he experienced “cardiac issues” and could not continue. DNR game wardens responded to the search and rescue call with Rabun County SAR and Tallulah Gorge State Park personnel.
A DNR Aviation Unit extracted the man from the floor of the 1,000-foot-deep canyon. They rappelled from the helicopter to reach him, then hoisted him by basket out of the gorge.
