CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Habersham County Paramedic Elisha Higgins has been named Region 2 Paramedic of the Year, a top honor recognizing outstanding dedication, skill, and leadership in emergency medical services.
Higgins was nominated by her peers, who praised her as a caregiver whose commitment to patients and community goes far beyond the call of duty. Known for her clinical expertise, professionalism, and compassion, she has earned a reputation as both a skilled provider and a trusted leader.
Her recognition is especially meaningful given the challenges she has faced personally. Even while undergoing cancer treatment and chemotherapy, Higgins remained committed to her role. She continued serving patients, supporting her coworkers, and lifting the morale of those around her.
“She didn’t just survive; she inspired,” her nomination letter read. “Her unwavering dedication, even in the face of personal adversity, is a testament to her strength, character, and true calling as a caregiver.”
Rather than stepping back, Higgins found ways to stay engaged with her team and community, offering encouragement and embodying the resilience at the heart of the EMS profession.
“Elisha is not only a skilled paramedic, she is a warrior, a mentor, and a source of hope and strength for those around her,” her colleagues wrote.
Habersham County Emergency Services leaders say they are proud of Higgins’ achievement and grateful for the example she sets daily. The award, they noted, reflects not just her personal resilience and professional excellence, but also the values that define EMS—dedication, courage, and compassion.
