HFCU and HALLCO credit unions merge

Clarkesville-based Habersham Federal Credit Union (HFCU) and Gainesville-based HALLCO Community Credit Union are officially merging today, Friday, May 1. The merger is a “strategic union” to better serve existing and future members, according to management.

“Over the last several years, the board and management of HFCU have been working diligently to identify and add the products and services that our members want and need,” explains President and CEO of Habersham Federal Credit Union Jessi Rothell.

The merger was announced following the approval of HFCU’s Board of Directors and members.

“HALLCO is the perfect partner for HFCU because we have the same founding principles and serve our members with the same core values,” Rothell says. “We genuinely believe that together we can achieve more for our members than we ever could apart.”

HALLCO Community Credit Union was established in 1971. Habersham Federal Credit Union was founded in 1978. The newly-merged credit union will be renamed at a later date. It will keep the current staff and branch locations. HALLCO has branch locations in Gainesville, Oakwood, Flowery Branch, and Cleveland, and HFCU has branch locations in Clarkesville, Homer, and Clayton.

Membership is open to anyone who lives or works within the credit union’s seven-county service area in Northeast Georgia. Those counties including Banks, Dawson, Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin, Rabun, and White Counties.

By June 1, all HFCU branches will begin offering HALLCO services. On November 1, accounts from both will be merged under the newly established credit union.

“HALLCO and Habersham Credit Unions have both worked diligently to create a service first culture while maintaining a solid financial position,” says President and CEO of HALLCO Community Credit Union Joe Foster. He says both credit unions are financially stable and are simply teaming up to expand services for members’ benefit. “Together, we can leverage our strengths and continue to build a credit union to meet the financial needs of the residents of Northeast Georgia.”
